Poster Series

How it started

The goal was to create a poster series for an event featuring speakers who discuss their backgrounds and their artwork. I had to conduct thorough research and think of my designs as their own. All speakers in the exhibition are artists who use music to express themselves uniquely and excitingly, this was my biggest inspiration.

Background Research: Patti Smith is a rock and roll inductee who found a way to merge poetry and rock in a way that speaks to people.Jjjjjjerome Ellis uses his stutter to connect to the history of injustices in the past for various groups of people.Charmaine Lee uses her voice as an instrument and shows us how to think outside the box. She redefines what it means to be a musician and she makes people feel something through the unusual sounds you'd expect from a “traditional singer”.

Process

As an early step in conceptualizing my poster series, I began by capturing original photographs to serve as backgrounds, textures, and visual inspiration. This hands-on process helped draw inspiration from tangible visuals and provided a strong foundation for the series. From there, I translated those references into sketches, exploring composition and layout before developing them further into refined digital concepts.

Final

Bottom Line

I created this final concept because it best represented the artists through its thoughtful use of color, typography, and imagery. This series achieves a balance of simplicity and intrigue, drawing viewers in, while also providing necessary information. Envisioned in a physical format, the design could incorporate metallic or glossy finishes to enhance its visual appeal. This final outcome captured the essence of the artists and successfully translated it into a visual concept.
